Who is this website for?
This website is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about beavers and how crucial they are to the environment. With the recent discovery of beavers on Staten Island, my home borough, residents have expressed concerns about their presence due to flooding and fallen trees. I designed this website to improve the image of beavers in the eyes of Staten Islanders and anyone who may view beavers in a negative light, because they are a crucial part of what makes an ecosystem function correctly. I hope this website provides information on how important beavers are to the environment and how humans and beavers can all live together peacefully! |
About the "author"
My name is Theo and I have lived on Staten Island for 22 years. I grew up among the green spaces on Staten Island and came to appreciate the parks and wetlands that make the "forgotten borough" the greenest borough in NYC. My passion for animals developed after spending much of my childhood outdoors, and after graduating from SUNY Geneseo with a BS in biology, I began working at the Staten Island Zoo. It wasn't until I started working with the zoo's beaver pair that I became aware of how important beavers are to the environment. Now, I can barely ever stop talking about beavers, and if someone asks me what my favorite animal is they are in for a long conversation about why beavers are so important! |
